Gran Fondo Training Plans
Dig Deep Coaching have developed three training plans that are aimed specifically at helping different levels of cyclists progress and enhance their fitness towards the Gran Fondo Northern Ireland. They have used their experience from helping thousands of cyclists worldwide to meet their goals to developing the perfect plan to help you improve your lifestyle, enhance your fitness and get trim for the event. For just £5 you will have a 10 week training plan that not only details each days training and exercise in detail but is full of useful tips and links to further information that will help your overall wellbeing and cycling experience. All you need to implement this plan is a bike and a focus to improve and enhance your cycling. The plans detail every terminology and help you understand each session in a simple and clear format. This plan will be one investment that you will see the benefits of long after you have completed the Gran Fondo with renewed fitness and enthusiasm to continue on your journey to better health and wellbeing.
This plan is aimed at the cyclist who is new to the sport and is potentially partaking in a sportive event for the first time. With this plan you will see gradual increases in frequency of training that are aimed at building your fitness gradually to help you complete the 58km Strangford Route in perfect fitness. With the total hourly training ranging from 4 hours a week to 6 hours and 40 minutes with an average weekly training volume of 5 hours 30 minutes over the 10 weeks. This is all easily built around your busy lifestyles and work commitments.
Intermediate Plan – 173km Mourne Route
This plan is aimed at cyclists who wish to take on the 175km Mourne Route and want to maximize the time you have to train each day. Perhaps you have never done an event of this length before or don’t know how to best prepare, this plan will take out the guesswork. A good base fitness is needed to take on this plan with some consistent cycling in the 3 months leading up to starting the structured training. If you have been riding or exercising 3 times a week and have previously done some sportive events in the last couple of years then this plan is for you. This plan will help you get fitter, leaner and increase endurance for the event and help you tackle this challenge with confidence and determination for a fantastic experience. The plan varies week to week on the overall durations with week 1 being the shortest at a total of 5 hours and 25 minutes and the longest are weeks, 8 and 9, which see an increase to 9 hours on the bike. The average duration is around 7 hours a week.
Advanced Plan – 175km Mourne Route
This plan is aimed at the more experiecned cyclist who is taking on the 175km Mourne Route and wishes to maximise their abiltiy across different disciplines with specifc training to hit a fast time and average speed. A good base fitness is needed to take on this plan with some consistent cycling in the 6 months leading up to start of structured training. If you have been riding your bike or exercising 4 to 5 times a week and previously undertaken sportive events in the last couple of years then this plan is for you. This plan will help you get fitter, leaner and faster with targeted training sessions to help your climbing, speed an enduracne. This plan will help you tackle each mountain with renewed ability and confidiecne. The plan varies week to week on the overall durations with week 1 being the shortest at a total of 7 hours 45 minutes and the longest is week 7 which sees an increase to 11 hours on the bike. The average duration is around 9 hours a week.
