TRAVEL AND PARKING ARRANGEMENTS

The 2017 edition of the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia Northern Ireland will start and finish at Stormont Estate. This provides a fantastic link to our legacy event the 2014 Giro d’Italia Big Start that saw the Team Time Trial tackle the famous hill in front of the iconic seat of government in Northern Ireland.

The start time for the Mourne Route is 07:00. Starting grid opens at 06:00.

The start time for the Strangford is 08:30. Starting grid opens at 07:30.

Please plan your journey to arrive with plenty of time to get parked, prepared for the event and report to the starting grid located on Prince of Wales Avenue.

We would recommend that riders cycle to Stormont or share a vehicle in order to minimise congestion and reduce the carbon footprint on-site.

Those cyclists with accessibility requirements should email us at info@granfondogiroditaliani.com for separate instructions.

As road closures will be in place no traffic – either by vehicle or bicycle will be permitted to enter the Stormont Estate by the main gates at Upper Newtownards Road, Prince of Wales Avenue, on the morning of the event, please follow the directions below.

If travelling from Belfast City centre on the Upper Newtownards Road, turn left at the Knock Road traffic lights and travel via Hawthornden Way, Belmont Road and Massey Avenue to the Massey Avenue gates. On entering the Stormont Estate you will be directed to free on-site parking.

If travelling from the Outer Ring, at the Knock Road, Upper Newtownards Road traffic lights go straight across the Upper Newtownards Road onto Hawthorden Way and continue as above.

If you are travelling from Newtownards or Dundonald on the Upper Newtownards Road you should access the Stormont Estate by turning right onto Stoney Road and then entering Stormont via the Stoney Road gates to the estate. You will then be directed to free on-site parking.

There are approximately 1,800 free parking spaces (first come, first served basis) available within the Stormont Estate and no parking charges will be applied. Please follow the direction of marshals and do not park on the roads within the Stormont Estate, use only the established car parks and please do not park on the local residential streets or in the vicinity of the Ulster Hospital.

When you have completed the event and are ready to leave the Stormont
Estate, please exit through the same gate you entered.

Thank you for your cooperation.
